wdbx-api-serve

Build the abi CLI and drive the WDBX REST server end-to-end — start `abi wdbx api serve` on a loopback port, hit GET /health and GET /stats, and verify ABI_WDBX_REST_TOKEN bearer auth (401 without/with wrong token, 200 with the right one). Use to run/start/smoke-test the WDBX REST API. Loopback only; kills the server on exit.

SKILL.md (original)

Review the instructions the agent will receive before you install.

WDBX moved out of this repository on 2026-08-22. It now lives in the sibling repo ../wdbx together with abi-compute, abi-foundation, abi-core, and abi-telemetry; abi consumes them by relative path. Source paths below therefore read ../wdbx/crates/.... Run WDBX-only tests from that repo (./tools/cargo.sh test --locked --manifest-path ../wdbx/Cargo.toml --workspace < /dev/null, run from the abi checkout), and abi's gate (./tools/check.sh) from here.

Under the Abbey System Constitution (docs/superpowers/specs/2026-08-22-abbey-system-constitution.md) WDBX is the provenance-aware episodic substrate, not a vector store. Most of the evidence half of its specification is unimplemented; the measured gap list is in docs/superpowers/specs/2026-08-22-wdbx-conformance-gap-analysis.md. Do not describe an episodic capability as Current on the strength of the vector-store features that do exist.

wdbx-api-serve — drive the WDBX REST server

Driver: .agents/skills/wdbx-api-serve/serve.sh (paths relative to repo root). Builds the CLI, launches the REST listener on 127.0.0.1, exercises it with curl, and tears the server down (EXIT trap). Evidence is the RESULT: line. Fully local, loopback only.

Run (agent path)

.agents/skills/wdbx-api-serve/serve.sh # default ports 8091 (no-auth) + 8092 (auth)
.agents/skills/wdbx-api-serve/serve.sh 9100 # custom base port (uses 9100 + 9101)
  • Launches abi wdbx api serve <port>, polls GET /health until up → asserts {"status":"ok"}.
  • GET /stats → asserts the store-stats JSON ("backend").
  • Restarts with ABI_WDBX_REST_TOKEN=probe-tok on <port>+1 and asserts bearer auth: no token → 401, wrong token → 401, Authorization: Bearer probe-tok → 200.

Prints RESULT: PASS (exit 0) or a FAIL count. Both servers are killed on exit.

Current Rust driver: uses an isolated ABI_WDBX_PATH, proves loopback health and stats, then checks bearer enforcement is exactly 401/401/200.

Gotchas

  • ⚠️ Loopback + local hardening only. The listener binds 127.0.0.1; ABI_WDBX_REST_TOKEN is a bearer gate, not a substitute for a TLS fronting layer. Same scheme as the MCP HTTP transport's ABI_MCP_HTTP_TOKEN.
  • The driver uses two ports (<port> and <port>+1); pick a base that leaves the next port free. It always kills both servers via an EXIT trap — check pgrep -f 'abi wdbx api serve' returns nothing after a run.
  • auth=off in the startup log is expected when ABI_WDBX_REST_TOKEN is unset; it flips to auth=on when the env var is present.
  • /stats reports the backend label separately from mode=cpu_fallback; a metal label alone is not evidence that a kernel executed.
  • For a source-level tour of the REST routing core (rest.rs route) and the WAL/checkpoint substrate, use the wdbx-explorer subagent.

Troubleshooting

SymptomFix
build FAILCheck the repository toolchain via ./tools/cargo.sh --version, then ./tools/check.sh.
server did not come upPort in use — pass a free base port; or the build didn't produce the binary.
bearer test all 200ABI_WDBX_REST_TOKEN is not being enforced — check RestConfig::from_env and abi_foundation::http::has_bearer_token.

Maintain the Abbey / Aviva / Abi Discord system prompts in the Rust abbey-bot (`src/ask.rs`) and keep the hosted Grok bots (Grok Bot Abbey, Aviva Grok) in step with them. Use when the user says "improve grok bots", "abbey prompt", "persona prompt", "ask.rs", "system prompt", "tip floor", asks to change how Abbey/Aviva/Abi speak on Discord, or after an abbey-bot PR merges and the hosted bot's tip floor needs bumping. Runs as /abbey-system-prompt.

Validate ABI docs and external collateral against repo evidence and docs/contracts/external-claims-audit.mdx. Use when auditing claims, scanning docs for unsupported QPS/sharding/FHE/AES language, checking one claim before publish, or re-confirming the external-claims audit. Agent procedure only — not a CLI or slash command. Pair with abi-doc-claims-sync when editing docs.

Synchronize ABI Markdown and docs claims with executable behavior. Use before editing README, AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, GEMINI.md, docs/**/*.mdx, walkthroughs, changelogs, or any old ABI Markdown that mentions WDBX, MCP, GPU, clustering, compression, FHE, agents, or benchmarks.

Plan and execute ABI repo work from the TODO board, roadmap/spec docs, stable Rust 1.99.1 constraints, and validation gates. Use when the user asks to find ABI todos/roadmaps, organize a large implementation from tasks/todo.md, or decide the next safe work slice. Distinct from the goals skill — that skill owns the persistent ledger tasks/goals.md; this skill plans from the active board and north-star specs.
