globe-gl

Build interactive 3D globe visualizations with globe.gl, displaying locations, connections, regions, and labels. The skill guides setup in HTML or React, explains data fields for each layer, and addresses sizing and mobile performance.

OriginalShow the original description

Use when implementing globe.gl (Globe.GL) for 3D globe data visualization with WebGL/ThreeJS, including setup, data layers (points, arcs, polygons, labels), and integration patterns in plain HTML or React.

Good for

  • Plot locations on a 3D globe
  • Show connections between locations
  • Overlay regional data and labels

Globe.GL Skill

Workflow

  1. Confirm environment (plain HTML, framework, React bindings) and the data layers needed.
  2. Provide a minimal quick-start snippet plus the layer-specific fields.
  3. Add interactions or extra layers only if requested.
  4. Call out container sizing and performance considerations.

Quick start (ESM)

<script type="module">
  import Globe from 'globe.gl';

  const myGlobe = new Globe(document.getElementById('globe'))
    .globeImageUrl(myImageUrl)
    .pointsData(myData);
</script>

Quick start (script tag)

<script src="//cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/globe.gl"></script>
<script>
  const myGlobe = new Globe(document.getElementById('globe'))
    .globeImageUrl(myImageUrl)
    .pointsData(myData);
</script>

Common layers to mention

  • Points
  • Arcs
  • Polygons
  • Paths
  • Heatmaps and hex bins
  • Labels or HTML elements
  • 3D objects and custom layers

Practical tips

  • Size the container with CSS; the globe fills its parent element.
  • Reduce point count or size for performance on mobile.
  • Use a darker globe texture for neon-style data overlays.

Questions to ask when specs are missing

  • Which layers do you need (points, arcs, polygons, labels)?
  • What should the globe size be on desktop vs mobile?
  • Do you want drag/rotate interactions or a static globe?
  • Is this plain HTML, React (react-globe.gl), or another framework?

Build falling leaves in Three.js and similar 3D scenes, with visible front, edge, and back views as they tumble and drift. Coordinate wind, scene depth, camera-aware recycling, and performance checks for a convincing autumn effect.

  • Adding falling autumn leaves to a 3D scene
  • Coordinating leaf tumble, sideways drift, and wind
  • Managing leaves around buildings and camera movement

3d-four-seasons

FreeSummary

Add coordinated seasonal transitions to an existing 3D scene. Blend foliage, lighting, sky, ground, snow, and particles from one shared state while preserving camera controls and interactions, so the same place remains recognizable throughout spring, summer, fall, and winter.

  • Add a four-season selector to an outdoor 3D scene
  • Show seasonal changes in an architectural walkthrough
  • Coordinate foliage, sunlight, sky, and ground appearance

Prepare detailed 3D materials that remain clear in close-up views. The skill guides texture resolution, physically based material maps, surface mapping, filtering, and progressive loading while checking download size and GPU memory use.

  • Prepare wood, stone, and fabric materials for close-up views
  • Fix texture seams, grain direction, and normal map orientation
  • Preserve floor and foliage detail at oblique or distant views
