Good for

  • Checking recent Messages.app conversations
  • Reviewing a conversation's message history
  • Sending a text or attachment after confirmation
  • Watching a conversation for new messages

Overview

What it does

This skill helps you read and send iMessage and SMS messages through macOS Messages.app. It uses the command-line tool imsg to retrieve recent chats, conversation history, and attachment information. You can also watch a selected conversation for new messages.

It supports sending text and files to phone numbers or Apple IDs. For delivery, you can choose iMessage, SMS, or automatic selection.

When it helps

Use it to check recent exchanges or review an earlier conversation before contacting someone. It also supports short messages to family members and messages with attachments such as images.

Example requests

  • “Show my 10 most recent chats.”
  • “Check the latest 20 messages in this conversation, including attachment information.”
  • “Prepare a message to Mom saying ‘I'll be late,’ and confirm the recipient and message text with me.”

Notes

You need macOS, imsg, and a signed-in Messages.app. Your terminal also needs Full Disk Access and Automation permission to control Messages.app. The workflow requires confirming the recipient and message content before sending. Adding or removing group members is unsupported, and bulk messaging requires prior confirmation.

This overview was written by AI (OpenAI Codex) from the public SKILL.md. Check the original below for the exact behavior.
