control-ui-e2e

Review and test OpenClaw Control UI changes with galleries of screen states and real browser flows. Use simulated Gateway responses to check behavior consistently, collect feedback, and capture screenshots or videos as evidence.

OriginalShow the original description

Control UI browser tests, visual reviews and recordings, interaction performance audits, and Run Inspector evidence.

AI rating90/ 100See how to install

Good for

  • Comparing layouts across loading, empty, and error states
  • Collecting feedback on proposed screen changes
  • Testing chat flows with simulated Gateway responses
  • Capturing visual evidence before and after UI changes

Overview

What it does

This skill checks OpenClaw Control UI designs and changes through both appearance reviews and interaction tests. It creates an HTML gallery that places normal, loading, empty, and error states side by side. Reviewers can save and export comments on individual examples.

With Vitest and Playwright, it simulates Gateway responses and tests the complete flow, from starting the interface and communicating with the Gateway to checking what appears after an interaction. Visual changes are documented with inspected screenshots taken before and after the change.

When it helps

Use it when changing screens or components with several possible states, or when you want feedback grounded in concrete visual examples. It also helps with development tasks such as chat submission, where communication and the resulting display need to be checked together.

Example requests

  • “Create a gallery comparing this screen’s normal, empty, and error states.”
  • “Simulate Gateway responses and test what appears after sending a message.”
  • “Keep screenshots from before and after the layout change.”

Notes

An OpenClaw development environment with dependencies already installed is required. Tests normally run without real credentials. The gallery does not replace interaction tests, and generated images and videos are generally not committed.

This overview was written by AI (OpenAI Codex) from the public SKILL.md. Check the original below for the exact behavior.

Objective evaluation

AI rated this skill on four points using only the contents of its SKILL.md. Stars and popularity are not taken into account.

Clear instructionsIs it clear when to use it and what it does?
AGoodThe instructions identify uses and verification boundaries for interface changes, interaction tests, and visual reviews.
Concrete stepsAre steps, inputs, outputs, and examples spelled out?
AGoodIt provides steps from fixture preparation to verification, a test command, and evidence storage rules.
SafetyAre sending data, deleting files, and running commands disclosed?
AGoodReal credentials require explicit authorization, and deleting shared artifact directories or overwriting earlier evidence is prohibited.
Easy setupDoes it need few tools or API keys, and are they documented?
BPartly lackingIt assumes an existing dependency installation and a separate testing policy; setup steps are absent from the supplied text.

The total counts each point as A = 25, B = 15, C = 5. Rated by AI (OpenAI Codex) as of Oct 19, 2026. Treat it as a guide and read the original before installing.

Control UI E2E

Workflow

  1. Select proof. Use the existing browser E2E lane for routing, boot, Gateway handshake, and complete user flows; use browser/unit tests for isolated render logic. Read each branch below that matches the requested outcome. Done: every changed behavior has a named scenario and proof boundary.
  2. Prepare fixtures. Reuse ui/src/test-helpers/control-ui-e2e.ts with synthetic Gateway data. Extend its typed scenario options for missing responses. Use the existing dependency installation; preserve installs used by other jobs. Real Gateway/provider credentials require explicit live-proof authorization. Follow testing policy for execution placement. Done: the target flow runs against the intended source or production build and each required fixture response is defined.
  3. Exercise behavior. Install the mock before navigation. Act through visible controls and assert both the rendered outcome and relevant Gateway requests. Resolve unexpected behavior at the product or fixture owner before replaying. Done: each scenario reaches its asserted outcome, or has a retained failure identifying the unmet assertion.
  4. Deliver evidence. Apply the artifact rules below and the selected branch's checks. Report verified results, failures, and untested states separately. Done: every claimed result has inspectable evidence; remaining gaps are named.

UI Stress Test

For substantial layout/component changes or multi-state design feedback, read visual proof before building the stress-test gallery. Small copy/icon changes may use focused proof.

Visual Proof Default

For appearance changes, screenshots, transient-state capture, or video, read visual proof. Appearance changes require inspected before/after evidence; behavior assertions alone can suffice for nonvisual fixes.

Interaction Performance Audits

For UI slowness, responsiveness audits, or automatic Chrome trace collection, read interaction profiling before choosing the build, fixtures, and measurement boundaries.

Run Inspector evidence

For run/execution/decision evidence, read Run Inspector capture before selecting a receipt.

Artifacts

  • Allocate with createControlUiE2eArtifactDir(scope, parentDir?), once per attempt or standalone invocation. Pass the directory to capture helpers; keep distinct stage filenames and the report, screenshots, traces, and video together.
  • The helper owns parent selection. Preserve existing output controls, gates, viewport, and recording options; use its returned path in the final report.
  • Retain failed and successful attempts. Clean up only exact owned directories after review; never clear shared artifact parents or overwrite earlier proof.
  • Timeout diagnostics use fresh children of their existing diagnostic parent. Mantis retains every attempt. Real-Gateway, chat-outbox-*, and chat-attachment-read-lifecycle suites have separate owners: verify their retention behavior before claiming replay-safe capture.

Running a focused test

Use the current scripts in package.json and testing policy. For a worktree's focused browser test:

node scripts/run-vitest.mjs run --config test/vitest/vitest.ui-e2e.config.ts --configLoader runner ui/src/e2e/chat-flow.messaging.e2e.test.ts
