Good for

  • Find past Discord discussions
  • Review a week of channel messages
  • Check recent locally archived DMs
  • Check archive freshness and message counts

Overview

What it does

discrawl searches saved Discord messages and DMs to gather information for reviewing or summarizing conversations. You can limit reads by channel, date range, or message count. It also supports SQL, a language for querying data, to obtain exact counts and related records. It checks archive freshness and whether data sources are ready, then synchronizes when needed.

When it helps

Use it to find an earlier discussion or review recent conversations in a channel. Results include the date range, channel or DM names, message counts, and missing coverage, helping you understand how much of the conversation was available for review.

Example requests

  • “Review and summarize this channel's conversations from the past seven days.”
  • “Read the 20 most recent saved DMs.”
  • “Check the archive's freshness and message count.”

Notes

discrawl must be installed. Data from Discord Desktop is read from local saved files; synchronization through the Bot API requires configured credentials. Desktop DMs remain local and are excluded from public Git snapshots. In a ClawSweeper environment, use the dedicated read commands and work with data limited to public channels.

This overview was written by AI (OpenAI Codex) from the public SKILL.md. Check the original below for the exact behavior.

Objective evaluation

AI rated this skill on four points using only the contents of its SKILL.md. Stars and popularity are not taken into account.

Clear instructionsIs it clear when to use it and what it does?
AGoodIt prioritizes local Discord archives and explains when to search, check freshness, or synchronize.
Concrete stepsAre steps, inputs, outputs, and examples spelled out?
AGoodIt gives search, messages, dms, and sql examples and specifies reporting dates, counts, and coverage gaps.
SafetyAre sending data, deleting files, and running commands disclosed?
AGoodIt prohibits unapproved database mutations and credential extraction, and excludes DMs from public snapshots.
Easy setupDoes it need few tools or API keys, and are they documented?
AGoodIt specifies Go-based installation and explains bot synchronization credentials and the dedicated reader environment.

The total counts each point as A = 25, B = 15, C = 5. Rated by AI (OpenAI Codex) as of Oct 19, 2026. Treat it as a guide and read the original before installing.

Discrawl

Use local Discord archives first. For recent/current questions, check discrawl status --json; use discrawl doctor for source/config readiness. Refresh only when stale, missing the requested scope, or explicitly requested.

discrawl sync --source wiretap # local Discord Desktop artifacts
discrawl sync # configured source; bot API requires credentials

Use --full only for deliberate historical backfills. Do not interrupt another archive writer to resolve a busy/locked database. Resolve configured paths instead of assuming default macOS, XDG, or legacy locations.

Read Bounded Slices

DISCRAWL_NO_AUTO_UPDATE=1 discrawl search --limit 20 "query"
discrawl messages --channel '<channel>' --days 7 --all
discrawl dms --last 20
DISCRAWL_NO_AUTO_UPDATE=1 discrawl --json sql "select count(*) as messages from messages;"

DISCRAWL_NO_AUTO_UPDATE=1 suppresses git-share updates during read smokes. discrawl sql is read-only by default and accepts SQL arguments or stdin. Use it for exact counts/joins when normal reads are too coarse; never use --unsafe --confirm without an explicitly requested and reviewed database mutation. Consult subcommand help for filters. Report absolute date spans, channel/DM names, counts, freshness, and source gaps.

Source Boundaries

Desktop wiretap reads local artifacts; it must not extract credentials, use user tokens, call Discord as the user, or write Discord application storage. Bot sync needs configured bot credentials; never infer availability. Desktop DMs are local-only, not part of the published Git snapshot. Git-share snapshots must exclude secrets and @me DM rows.

For implementation work or a genuinely missing CLI feature, verify the checkout remote is openclaw/discrawl and follow its instructions. Do not assume a machine-specific historical checkout path.

ClawSweeper Sandbox

Use the sandbox reader only:

discrawl-sandbox search --limit 20 "query"
discrawl-sandbox messages --channel clawtributors --days 7 --all
discrawl-sandbox status --json

This reader imports https://github.com/openclaw/discord-store.git into /root/clawsweeper-sandbox-workspace/.discrawl/discrawl.db with discord.token_source = "none". The published Git snapshot is public-channel filtered; do not use /root/.discrawl/config.toml or the rich writer DB from sandboxed public Discord sessions.
