openviking-rule-search

Searches OpenViking Rules for constraints relevant to a task, checks each rule against its conditions and exceptions, and helps adjust a planned action or response. Search again when new facts materially change the task context.

OriginalShow the original description

Good for

  • Checking a planned action against task rules
  • Reviewing an agent response for applicable constraints
  • Rechecking rules after task details change

Overview

What it does

Summarize the user's goal, the planned action or decision, and concrete facts that may affect which rules apply in task_context. Use openviking_rule_search to find relevant OpenViking Rules. Review each returned rule separately: check whether the task supports its applicability conditions and whether an exception applies. Adjust the planned action or response to follow the applicable rules. Treat missing information as unknown instead of filling it in with guesses. Search again when the task's assumptions change.

When it helps

Use this skill before carrying out an action or sending a response when you need to check constraints specific to the task. It also helps organize the conditions and exceptions across multiple rules, or determine whether new information changes which rules apply.

Example requests

  • “Search for OpenViking Rules that apply to this action and review my plan.”
  • “Check the relevant rules and exceptions for this draft response, and revise it if needed.”
  • “The assumptions have changed. Search again using the task's current conditions.”

Notes

Treat search results as constraints, not as evidence for facts you have not confirmed. Include all known facts in task_context; do not leave them out to get a preferred result.

OpenViking Rule Search

Goal

Use openviking_rule_search to retrieve the compiled Rules that constrain the current task, then validate the planned action or response against every applicable Rule.

Workflow

  1. Build task_context from the user's goal, the planned action or decision, and concrete facts that may affect which Rules apply. Include material unknowns instead of guessing them.
  2. Call openviking_rule_search with that task_context.
  3. Review every returned Rule independently. Apply a Rule when its applies_when condition is supported by the task context and no exception applies.
  4. Adjust the planned action or response to comply with all applicable Rules.
  5. Call openviking_rule_search again when new information materially changes the task context.

Boundaries

  • Treat returned Rules as constraints, not as evidence that unobserved facts are true.
  • Do not omit known facts from task_context to force a preferred result.
