Use this skill when creating, moving, renaming, or significantly updating repo documentation. It routes docs to the right location, avoids duplicate doc trees, and keeps both machine and human indexes current.
<root>/index.yaml as the machine-readable source of truth for the resolved docs root.<root>/INDEX.md synchronized from <root>/index.yaml.Required fields:
intent: short description of what the doc is for.title: proposed human title.Optional fields:
summary: one to three sentence description.doc_type_hint: coarse type such as runbook, adr, spec, how_to, notes, or reference.tags: short component, domain, feature, or workflow labels.allow_nonstandard_docs: boolean override flag, default false. A false value pauses a nonstandard placement before any document or index mutation; true permits only a safe, validated placement and records it as nonstandard.See Docs Routing Reference for payload examples and schema details.
docs.config.yaml when present. Resolve its root as a normalized repo-relative path, defaulting to docs, and reject absolute paths or .. escapes.<root>/index.yaml, <root>/INDEX.md, and <root>/.docs-classifications.yaml when present.category_label, category_slug, and optional component_slug.allow_nonstandard_docs is false or omitted, pause before document or index mutation; return both paths, a warning, and the confirmation needed to use the recommendation or enable the override.allow_nonstandard_docs is true, apply normal containment, exclusion, ownership, generated-file, and private/public checks before preserving it. Emit a nonstandard_location warning and set that field to true on its single machine-index entry.<root>/index.yaml, then regenerate or patch <root>/INDEX.md from that machine index.docs.config.yaml may override the root, categories, aliases, required metadata fields, and exclusions. It stays at repo root so it can be loaded before the docs root is known.<root> once from its root field, defaulting to docs/; normalize trailing separators and require the result to stay inside the repository.<root>/index.yaml, <root>/INDEX.md, and <root>/.docs-classifications.yaml. A custom root moves all three; do not keep a legacy docs/index.yaml as a second active index or silently consolidate split state.<root>/<category_slug>/./<component_slug>/ only when the component boundary is clear.Slug rules:
-.Before creating a new doc, search for an update candidate using:
category_label.component_slug.<root>/index.yaml.Treat a candidate as strong when the title, component, and tags indicate the same topic. If a strong candidate exists, recommend updating it and return both the proposed new location and the existing path.
<root>/index.yaml is the machine index. Entry paths remain repo-relative and include the resolved root for standard documents or the actual safe path for an approved nonstandard document. Each managed entry should include:
id.path.title.category_label.category_slug.component_slug.status.last_updated.doc_type.tags.nonstandard_location.<root>/INDEX.md is the human index. Generate or patch it from <root>/index.yaml, grouping by category and using one consistent ordering rule within each category.
allow_nonstandard_docs never bypasses repository containment, configured exclusions, ownership, generated-file controls, or private/public boundaries.ls/docs/ as framework documentation; this skill may help organize it when explicitly requested but must not redefine that boundary.ls-script-docs-authoring for markdown, encoding, and file creation discipline.ls-humanize-ai-writing before finalizing when the user asks for polished public-facing writing. After changing docs through this skill, verify:
<root>/index.yaml has exactly one matching entry.<root>/INDEX.md links to the same path.nonstandard_location: true. For scenario examples and optional config schema, see the Docs Routing Reference linked above.
Classification: route documentation organization and lifecycle questions here. Use ls-docs-source-drift for generated docs and public framework alignment checks.
